Thanks for the memories, Manute

I was shocked to learn that Manute Bol, the lovable 7’7” center who was a treat to watch back in the day, died at the way-too-young age of 47 years old.  In fact, I had to double back when I saw the headline. I didn’t even know he was sick.

You were a good man, big fella.  The basketball world will miss you.

I have two great memories of Manute.  One was the way he shot 3 pointers from the side of his head, as though he were flinging them.  The second was the time Charles Barkley and Rick Mahorn played a funny prank on him.

“…the way he shot 3 pointers from the side of his head, as though he were flinging them.” –I used to call his outside shot the “slingshot”.
