I did a Win__Loss analysis for the Boston Celtics roster last night. I guess I didn’t realize how incredibly top heavy the team is. I remember when they won their championship three seasons ago that had a lot of depth. They don’t have that anymore.
Once you get past the Big 3 (Rondo, Garnett & Pierce) and the Intermediate 2 (Ray Allen & Shaq), the Celtics have almost nothing. Baby Davis is awful. He is one of the more overrated players in the NBA and has been since he turned pro. Jermaine O’Neal is “Death with a Headband”. They just traded away a pretty decent center in Kendrick Perkins for a center in Nenad Kristic who may be playing well at the moment, but who has no track record of productivity.
Jeff Green is playing good defense at the moment, but he cannot sustain negative opposition numbers. Meanwhile his offensive production is a joke.
Marquis Daniels has played well, but once again, he has a track record of underproductivity.
Beyond that, the team has nothing. Can they win a championship riding four veterans? They will try. It reminds me of when the Brewers tried to ride CC Sabathia to the playoffs. They managed to do it. I’m not so sure about the Celtics.
I’m starting to like the Chicago Bulls in the East. I’ll have to think it over. They certainly have the defense.
